Our investment in Karachaganak is not limited to the development of the state-of-the-art production facilities. It is much wider than that as we are investing in the future of both the country and the people of Kazakhstan.

The development phase of the project is complete and we have now moved to the operational phase that will continue through to 2038 and for this we need to build a top team that is capable of running one of the biggest operations of its kind in the world, and that is one of our main priorities.

This team will be mainly Kazakh. We gave a commitment that this would be so when we signed the Final Production Sharing Agreement with the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1997. And to ensure that this happens, we have developed a detailed Nationalisation Programme that has been fully endorsed by the government

Our needs are wide-ranging. We need experienced people with management, engineering and scientific skills to take on senior roles, but there is also a place for bright young people who are willing to face the challenge of working and learning on a project such as this.

Karachaganak will play an important part in the future of Kazakhstan and for those who have the courage and ability to take up the challenge, it will provide the opportunity to work with a truly international organisation in a multi-cultural environment and to learn from acknowledged world experts while contributing to a state-of-the-art project that is one of the largest of its kind in the world.
