Phase II
The operating company, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating BV (KPO) has completed the first two phases of development as envisaged under the Final Production Sharing Agreement (FPSA).
Phase II involved investment to enhance the existing facilities, construction of new gas and liquids processing and gas injection facilities, the work-over more than 100 wells, construction of a 120 MW power station and laying a new 650 kilometre pipeline to connect the field to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) system at Atyrau.
The construction phase commenced in 1999 and was completed in 2003. The inauguration ceremony of the Karachaganak Processing Complex hosted by the President of Kazakhstan Republic Nursultan Nazarbayev took place in August 2003.
