Nationalisation
The nationalisation of our workforce is one of KPO’s key priorities and we have made good progress in this area over the past decade. KPO has met the targets set in the Final Production Sharing Agreement by the Republic of Kazakhstan and we are already setting new benchmarks that will see Kazakhstani managers steering the future course of Karachaganak.
In addition to training and development, we have a detailed Nationalisation Programme which was developed in cooperation with the Authorised Body of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The purpose of the KPO Nationalisation Programme is to build capability across our workforce so that existing expatriate positions can be assumed by competent and professional Kazakhstani staff.
To date, local employees fill all of the Venture’s skilled and clerical positions and some 95 per cent of professional and supervisory positions are also Kazakhstani. At managerial level, some 69 per cent of positions are filled by local employees. This figure will increase as the new Nationalisation Plan is rolled out across the business.
These achievements have been made possible through KPO’s strategy of:
- Recruiting qualified graduates from leading Kazakhstan-based universities and institutions;
- Providing tailor made training programmes to assist graduates in gaining employment;
- Supporting continued development on the job through mentoring, individual development planning and certified professional training.
