Golden Rules for Road Safety

URALSK, West Kazakhstan Oblast, 1 June, 2018 – The public campaign ‘Golden Rules for Road Safety’ was launched in Western Kazakhstan Oblast.  The initiator of the project Shell Kazakhstan is appealing to local community to obey the road safety regulations and to increase the level of safety on the roads.  The campaign was supported by the Akimat of Western Kazakhstan Oblast, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) and the Road Safety Association.

Akim of the West Kazakhstan Oblast, Altai Kulginov, said: “The Golden Rules are intended to ensure the observation of road safety regulations, safety of our citizens as well as to save lives and health of our people.  At the initiative of Shell Kazakhstan and together with KPO, we would like to give a signal to society that everything is in our hands.  One should always follow the basic safety rules, such as buckling the safety belt up, not to cross the road when traffic light is red and not to drive over onto the opposite drive lane”.

Edwin Blom, KPO General Director, said: “Safety is the most important area in our business.  Our priority is to make sure that everybody gets back home safely, including our own staff, contractors, sub-contractors, the people that live close to our facilities and local community”.

“KPO fully supports this important initiative, which is aimed to raise safety culture on roads, and to improve the knowledge and awareness of this subject on the part of the population of Aksai and Uralsk”, he added.

Zarina Bakenova, Head of Government and External Relations, Shell Kazakhstan, said: “Basing our activities on one of the fundamental business principles of Shell which is safety, road safety, we started our strategic social investment projects here in Western Kazakhstan with a wide road safety campaign and today I am really pleased to note that the WKO Akim Mr. Kulginov has personally participated in the signing ceremony of the Golden Rules on Road Safety”.

“We look forward to seeing participation of the all citizens of the region. There are a number of programmes we conduct within this project, including the theatrical performances for the children of Aksai – more than two thousand have already taken part in this early May and there is more coming in Uralsk, as well as defensive driving trainings for the public transportation drivers with the aim to lower the risks on the roads of the region”, she noted.

The Western Kazakhstan Oblast became one of the first regions in Kazakhstan to have joined the Global Movement "The Golden Rules for Road Safety". This project is being implemented as part of the Global Plan of Action on the Declaration on the Protection of the Road Traffic for 2011-2020 and the Address of RoK President “Course towards the future: modernization of Kazakhstan’s Identity”.
