KPO held workshop within framework of “Karachaganak Expansion Project. Phase 1”

ALMATY, Republic of Kazakhstan, 26 November, 2015 – “Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V.” (KPO) held a workshop for the representatives of international and local manufacturers in order to discuss the needs of “Karachaganak Expansion Project. Phase 1” (KEP-1) for electrical equipment and cable products manufactured in Kazakhstan.

The main objective of the event was to familiarize the participants with upcoming volume of orders on the part of KPO and to provide assistance regarding involvement of local manufacturers in KEP-1 through creation of business partnerships / joint ventures with the aim of subsequent manufacturing of new high-demand products in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The workshop was attended by representatives of state authorities and industry-specific associations including “PSA” LLP, “NADLoC” Agency, “KAZENERGY” Association, and “Union of Service Companies of Kazakhstan”.

KPO Local Business Development Controller, Beibit Sabirov, welcoming the participants, said: “KPO and its partner companies in the Karachaganak project fully support the initiatives of the RoK Government in the development of local production and service clusters. We are determined to move forward with implementation of a number of major projects in this area as part of the next production expansion phase of the Karachaganak field. In general, this strategy will ensure long-term development of Kazakhstan enterprises as well as introduction of new technologies through establishment of joint ventures between interested Kazakhstan and Western companies” he noted.

“I hope that this workshop will stimulate international vendors to analyse the possibility of production localization and creation of industrial capacities in the Republic of Kazakhstan”, added Beibit Sabirov.

As part of the event, in the format of roundtables the KPO representatives responded to the questions raised by the participants concerning the needs for electrical equipment and cable products for KEP-1.  The participants also discussed issues on project strategy in terms of local content, the activities of the Contracts and Procurement Department, KPO vendors’ database registration procedure, the process of preliminary evaluation of vendors’ qualification and KPO tendering requirements.

The representatives of international companies could also personally familiarize themselves with the activities of local manufacturers of electrical equipment by visiting several major enterprises located in the city of Almaty and elsewhere in the Almaty Oblast.

KPO is one of the first companies in Kazakhstan, which has successfully implemented its local content programme.  This has allowed involvement of more than three thousands of Kazakhstani enterprises, which have obtained contractual orders from KPO amounting to over $5.3 billion in the Karachaganak field development.

For this year the share of local content in KPO contracts for supply of goods and services has reached about 48 percent, which is equivalent to about $426 million in monetary terms.
