KPO hosted Conference on Gas Industry Develpment

URALSK, West Kazakhstan Oblast, August 11, 2016 – Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) hosted the Conference on Gas Industry Development in Kazakhstan in its Uralsk Office. The Conference in the format of “Round Table” was headed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Karim Massimov, who arrived to West Kazakhstan Oblast (WKO) with working visit. 

The “Round Table” was attended by Akim of the West Kazakhstan Oblast  Altay Kulginov,  Minister of Energy  Kanat Bozumbayev,  Minister of Investments and Development Zhenis Kassymbek, Chairman of the Board of “KazMunaiGaz” Sauat Mynbayev, General Director of “PSA” LLP Kenzhebek Ibrashev and other chief executives of the RoK Ministries, national companies, state authorities and industrial entities. Renato Maroli, KPO General Director, represented the Venture at the Conference. During the meeting, the participants of the “Round Table” discussed the issues and perspectives of the development of oil and gas industry in Kazakhstan and challenges of the current time.

Renato Maroli, KPO General Director, familiarized Karim Massimov with the operational activity of KPO, progress of the Karachaganak project development and contribution of KPO to socio-economic development of West Kazakhstan Oblast.     

Renato Maroli noted “As of today, KPO Partners have invested approximately 21.4 billion USD into developing one of the  world’s most complex reservoirs.”

“Developing the Karachaganak field development we apply industry leading technology aimed at maximizing sustainable economic value for the Republic of Kazakhstan and KPO Partners”, added Renato Maroli. “This is being implemented in accordance with the highest safety and environmental protection standards.”

Renato Maroli emphasized that over these years KPO has established long-term partnership relations with many enterprises in Kazakhstan.  

“The use of local goods and services is high priority for KPO from the perspective of operational efficiency of the Company and it has a positive impact on the development of regional and national economy”, noted Renato Maroli.  

According to the half this year results, the proportion of local content in KPO contracts for the supply of goods, works and services reached 49.66 % which correspond to nearly 279 million USD in monetary terms. On the whole, since signing the FPSA in 1997, the share of local content in KPO procurement exceeded 5.7 billion USD.

By way of established partnership, over the years in West Kazakhstan Oblast a great number of school buildings, child care facilities, hospitals and social facilities have been built and hundreds of kilometers of roads have been constructed. In total, KPO has invested over 300 million USD into development of WKO social infrastructure.

As the largest employer company in the Region, KPO also fulfills its commitments for employees’ health protection and creation of long-term job opportunities with competitive pay system.   

As it was noted, in KPO national personnel occupy 78 percent of all managerial positions and 96 percent of supervisory and qualified specialist positions. As of today, 3,700 Kazakhstan employees work for KPO. 

The Prime Minister was also informed about the Karachaganak development strategy as well as the status of the Karachaganak Expansion Project - Phase 1 (KEP-1). 

In addition to all issues discussed, Karim Massimov was briefed on implementation of the second phase of the Resettlement Project for Berezovka and Bestau villages. This is construction of two apartment buildings in micro-district “Karachaganak-1” as well as 100 houses with land plots and household outbuildings in micro-district “Araltal” in Aksai. Overall, 372 families will be relocated as part of the second phase of the Project.

Following the visit, the Prime Minister appreciated  KPO’s  achievements and wished the Venture’s team further success.
