KPO delegation visited Mangistau region

AKTAU, Mangistau Oblast, October 13, 2016 – During its visit to the Mangistau Oblast, Delegation of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) took part in the ceremony of launching Tenaris Global Services plant. The new plant is located in Specialized Economic Zone of Aktau city.  

The opening ceremony was attended by the authorities of Mangistau region, representatives of various RoK ministries, KPO and Tenaris Global Services companies.

To remind, in July 2014, with the PSA Authority support the long-term agreement for the supply of casing was signed between KPO and Tenaris Global Services, under which a global manufacturer of tubular products Tenaris company undertook construction of tubular threading plant to manufacture finished oilfield tubulars in RoK for oil-and-gas industry.

40 mln USD was invested in the construction of a plant with capacity of 45 thousand tonnes of tubulars with gas leak-tight joints of premium class per year.

According to KPO General Director Renato Maroli, the idea of construction of tubular threading facility in the city of Aktau corresponds with the initiative of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on implementation of the state program of industrial-innovative development. “We are pleased to see that our participation in building a cluster around oil-and- gas projects attracted new investments to Mangistau region, gave additional impetus to the development of the region and provided conditions for creation of new jobs”, - he noted.

"KPO was the first company to place an order with this plant. It is worth mentioning that the production of this plant will be supplied not only to KPO, but also to other major oil-and-gas projects. We consider the transfer of innovative technologies to be one of the major tasks of local content development," Renato Maroli said.

In turn, Paolo Rocca, CEO of Tenaris Group, said: "At the moment, we are threading the first batch of casing for KPO. Construction of this plant is a contribution of Tenaris to the development of the local content and creation of new jobs in Kazakhstan. It should be noted that until today there was no alternative to this plant on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. We are pleased that we were able to implement this project with the support of KPO."

The range of the plant’s production covers about 90% of demands for the oilfield tubulars with joints of premium class, required for the majority of wells at exploration blocks of the all Caspian region, including such projects as Karachaganak, Tengiz and Kashagan.

The same day, KPO delegation headed by Renato Maroli, General Director, met with Akim of the Mangistau Oblast. The meeting was organized within the framework of interregional interaction and collaboration. The parties discussed the possibilities of participation of industrial Mangistau Oblast companies in the development of the Karachaganak Field.

In addition, KPO representatives also visited the production facilities of the largest industrial enterprises in the Region. During meetings and discussions, KPO specialists shared information on the suppliers’ database registration procedures, prequalification process and tender requirements of the Company.

On behalf of the delegation, Renato Maroli expressed his gratitude to authorities of the Mangistau Oblast for hospitality and wished further success to the companies of the Region.

KPO is one of the first companies in Kazakhstan, which has successfully implemented its local content programme.  According to Half-Year results, the proportion of local content in KPO contracts for the supply of goods, works and services reached 49.66% or almost $280 million in monetary terms. In total, since the signing of the FPSA, the proportion of local content in KPO contracts exceeded $5.7 billion.
