ASTANA, 18 November 2016 – Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) took part in the 2nd National Manufacturers Forum “The country of the Great Steppe”, which was held in Astana.

The Forum was attended by RoK Minister of Investments and Development, Zhenis Kassymbek, Chairman of the Board of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Atameken" Ablay Myrzakhmetov, representatives of national companies, subsurface users, and national manufacturers.

A number of long-term contracts between national companies and manufacturers were signed at the Forum.  In addition, an Award Ceremony "Best Customer of 2016” was held as part of the event during which KPO was announced the winner under “Reliable Partner” category.

The award was received by Marat Karimov, KPO Vice General Director.  As it was noted at the ceremony, KPO was the first international and the first oil and gas company to be awarded with such award.

Receiving the award, Marat Karimov said: "KPO is one of the first companies in Kazakhstan to successfully introduce a Local Content Development Programme. More than 3900 Kazakhstani suppliers are currently registered in KPO vendor database.

According to nine months of this year results, the proportion of local content in KPO contracts for the supply of goods, works and services exceeded 50%, which correspond to about $400 million in monetary terms.  On the whole, since signing the FPSA in 1997, the share of local content in KPO procurement exceeded $6 billion”.

“During this year, KPO took an active part in implementing a number of initiatives to increase local content, together with other major international oil and gas companies, as well as local and foreign service and engineering companies".

“KPO and Karachaganak partners remain committed to strengthening the local potential, which is achieved through implementation of sustainable development programmes and transfer of innovative technologies and skills".

“Objectives of KPO local content development programme are aligned with the RoK initiative on development of opportunities for domestic industry and increasing participation of Kazakhstani companies in large oil and gas projects such as Karachaganak”, added Marat Karimov.
