KPO delegation took part in V international Forum ALMATY INVEST 2017

ALMATY, 5 October, 2017 – Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) made a visit to Almaty City as part of Interregional Cooperation initiative. During the visit together with West Kazakhstan Oblast (WKO) Akimat and PSA LLP, KPO participated in V International Investment Forum “Almaty Invest 2017”.

On the Forum’s sidelines, an expanded meeting took place attended by the Akim of Almaty Baurzhan Baibek, WKO Akim Altay Kulginov and KPO General Director Renato Maroli. During the meeting, the parties also discussed the Almaty based companies’ potential involvement in KPO activities.

“We are looking to understand to what extent Almaty’s current manufacturing capabilities could be matched with KPO’s long-term strategic plans for the enhanced local content in goods, works and services supplied to the Karachaganak project”, - Renato Maroli said. He noted that Almaty is the 8th region in the Republic of Kazakhstan during the last two years, that KPO was visiting as part of the inter-regional cooperation initiative.

“I may note that KPO is a large  investor in Almaty - in 2016 a total amount of nearly $325 mln was paid to Almaty based companies”, added Renato Maroli.

During the Forum KPO signed a contract with the Almaty based Schneider Electric Ltd for the manufacturing of a modular power electric substation. This is the first time such equipment will be manufactured in the country - previously they were always imported from abroad.

Another long-term contract was signed with KazSpo-N Ltd for the production of fireproof clothing for KPO personnel. In the past, such coveralls also used to be imported. And lastly, a contract with Bureau Veritas was signed for the certification of West Kazakhstan machinery plants according to international standards ASME and API.

“These Contracts signed today with Almaty based manufacturers are worth more than 5 bln Tenge”, - Renato Maroli noted.

On behalf of the delegation, Renato Maroli thanked the Almaty Akim Baurzhan Baibek for the warm reception and wished the local enterprises further success in their business endeavors.

Following the Forum, KPO made site visits to Almaty Ventilation Plant, Structural Steel producer PSI Group LLP and KazSPO-N facilities.

KPO is one of the first companies in Kazakhstan, which has successfully implemented its local content programme.  More than 4100 Kazakhstani vendors are currently registered in KPO supplier database. Since signing the FPSA in 1997, the total value of goods, works and services supplied by local companies has exceeded $6.3 billion.

According to the 2017 half year results, the share of local content in procurement of goods, works and services at Karachaganak exceeded 51 per cent.
