KPO and Trade Unions Federation of Kazakhstan signed Corporate-Social Agreement

NUR-SULTAN, 28 February 2020 - “Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V.”  (KPO) and Trade Unions Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed Corporate-Social Agreement on cooperation and interaction.

The Corporate-Social Agreement is signed for the first time in the Republic of Kazakhstan history and is a core document for the development of social partnership between KPO and the Republican Trade Unions Federation.

Commenting on the signing of the Agreement, Edwin Blom, KPO General Director, said: “We are proud that KPO has chosen as the first company in Kazakhstan for such collaboration. KPO enjoys long-standing partner relationship with three Trade Unions, which represent more than 4,000 KPO employees and more than 15,000 contractors of the company.  It is not a coincidence that KPO’s Collective Agreement which was signed between KPO and Trade Unions is considered to be one of the best in Kazakhstan”.

“I believe that the signing of this Agreement will contribute to even better social protection of KPO employees and will also stimulate others towards better labour relations practices,”- Edwin Blom added.

Satybaldy Dauletalin, the Acting Chairman of the RoK Trade Unions Federation, emphasized the importance of strengthening social partnership in the development of a system for protecting labour rights and interests of workers.    “I am grateful to the management of KPO for supporting the initiative of the Federation of trade unions and for contributing to the development of the ideology of corporate social responsibility. I am sure that our further cooperation within the framework of the Agreement will make a significant contribution to ensuring social stability, improving the living standards and welfare of employees. Moreover, it will serve as a great example of social responsibility of business for other employers”, - said Satybaldy Dauletalin.

In the framework of cooperation, the parties intend to enhance interaction in observing and protecting the social and labour rights of workers, creating decent working conditions, ensuring labour, health and environmental protection for employees.

To date, KPO has invested more than $ 225 million into training and development of the Kazakh employees. Currently KPO is executing the fourth formal program of workforce nationalization. According to the results of 2019, national staff of KPO makes up 96% of total engineering and technical workers and 79% of total managerial positions.

Being one of the largest employers in the West Kazakhstan oblast, KPO is contributing to the sustainable development commitments of the Republic of Kazakhstan in a number of domains, like the enhancement of safety, the protection of the environment, the use of best available technologies, the engagement with local communities, the implementation of social-infrastructure projects and the partnership with local suppliers.
