KPO held the 5th International Environmental Forum in Uralsk

URALSK, West Kazakhstan Oblast, 10 June 2022 – The V International Uralsk Green Forum (UGF) organised by Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. together with West Kazakhstan Oblast Akimat was held in Uralsk today.

Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of RoK, Committee on Issues of Ecology and Environmental Management of the Parliament’s Mazhilis Chamber of RoK, regional state structures, industrial, specialised associations and agencies participated in the forum.

The main purpose of the event was to exchange experience for further co-operation in the implementation of “green” economy concept, enhance a comprehensive dialogue on environmental issues for consolidation of joint efforts and formation of a common outlook towards sustainable development of the region.

Also, among priorities – raising environmental awareness of the younger generations for cultivating environmentalist values among the youths. This subject echoes the concept of Kazakhstan’s transition to a “green” economy as outlined in the annual Address to the Nation by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the Forum, KPO also hosted several panel sessions for local university students focused on waste management, sustainable development and promotion of eco-start-ups.

When youth is engaged on environmental issues this not only changes their behaviours and attitudes, but is also likely to affect behavioural patterns in their parents, relatives and friends. Youth have an enormous potential for changing the future of the society due to their perceptive mind and desire to distinguish themselves from previous generations.

Giancarlo Ruiu in his welcoming speech for the forum participants has noted that KPO fully adheres to the tasks of Kazakhstan’s transition to a “green” economy and supports the need for taking active measures in combating the climate change.

«Last year, our company has adopted the long-term strategy "KPO-365". This multiyear strategy of transition to a “green” economy, focused on a principle of "net zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions”. But today as a part of the "green transition" KPO is studying the possible implementation of the carbon neutrality concept, the GHG abatement, including waste heat recovery, carbon capture and storage, as well as renewable energy supplies. I am sure that through a combined effort of all participants, this Forum will be efficient», - Giancarlo Ruiu added.

Gali Iskaliyev, West Kazakhstan Oblast Akim, in his speech highlighted major actions taken for the sustainable development of the region. «We agreed on all food waste processing with KPO. We are working on it now, it is going to have a favourable effect for the environment », - he added.

Also, Eco-Talks entitled «Green Course for the Sake of Sustainable Future» was held for West Kazakhstan Oblast students as a part of the forum.

The forum participants believe that all the relevant matters raised in the course of the discussion will be considered in the long-term decision-making process. The environmental awareness was defined as one of the key areas of the annual «Uralsk Green Forum» on the path towards sustainable environmental development of the region.

Since 2017 the «Uralsk Green Forum» as an international environmental forum has already grown into an efficient platform for experience exchange and dialogue among the savviest experts in the sustainable development area.
