KPO REPRESENTATIVE BECOMES HEAD OF KAZAKHSTAN PETROLEUM ASSOCIATION

The Executive Controller of the Government and Corporate Affairs Department at Karachaganak Petroleum Operating BV (KPO) Nurzhan Kamalov has become the head of the Kazakhstan Petroleum Association.

Commenting on his appointment, Nurzhan Kamalov said: “I would like to express my gratitude for giving me the opportunity to become the head of the Kazakhstan Petroleum Association, which serves as the effective forum for discussing the actual issues of the oil and gas industry as well as changes in financial, tax, ecological, and petroleum legislation”.

The main goal of KPA is the development of the geological exploration and production branches of the petroleum industry; sharing commercial information between member companies and the RoK government with the purpose of improving the investment and production climate for the oil and gas industry; monitoring changes in legislation concerning the oil and gas industry, and providing comments on draft bills concerning the energy industry.

Mr. Kamalov noted “The year 2007 was very successful for KPO, and with the help of the association, KPO will share its experience with other companies in the industry. In 2007, 99.65% of gas produced by Karachaganak was utilised, almost the entire amount of gas extracted. In developing Karachaganak, KPO has utilised leading production and hydrocarbon processing technology to enhance hydrocarbon recovery and harness significant value for the Republic of Kazakhstan. This has been done in accordance with the highest safety and environmental protection standards.

“Karachaganak does not only represent vast resources, its development has also brought enormous benefits to Kazakhstan and the communities within the West Kazakhstan Oblast. KPO supports many social and infrastructure projects, along with training and development, and local content initiatives”, added Nurzhan Kamalov.

The Kazakhstan Petroleum Association (KPA) connects 61 Kazakhstani and international companies from 20 countries working on the exploration and production of hydrocarbon crude, and also oil and gas sector services. At KPA sessions, members of the RoK government, representatives from diplomatic bodies, and the business elite are invited for presentations and information sharing, which can be interesting for subsoil users.
