KIO FUNDS KZT 1.3 MILLION FOR BURLINSKY SES UPGRADES, 14.10.2002

AKSAI, Western Kazakhstan oblast, 14 October 2002 -- A joint effort between KIO and Burlinsky regional SES, utilizing the University of London, has been completed. The effort has identified ways to improve the laboratory of SES.

Akim Erykabaev said: "I am very happy the SES laboratory of Aksai will be better able to operate in full measure for the benefit of Aksai residents and the entire region. I hope that with the equipment upgrade of the SES laboratory the health of people residing in Burlinski region will improve significantly."

University of London’s doctoral student and previous manager of a similar laboratory, Sean Kuan, visited the laboratory and began the review in July 2002. His recommendations for equipment upgrades are now complete. Commenting on his interaction with laboratory staff, Professor Kuan said, "I found the SES staffs to be very professional and qualified. The new equipment will help them better serve the people of Burlinski region." A substantive list of equipment was identified and KIO has committed to fund the full 1.3 million KZT amount.

Jack Hinton, Director-HSE said during the announcement: "KIO and SES work collaboratively together to ensure the public health of our workforce and the community. KIO is pleased to contribute to the upgrading of the regional laboratory. It will be a benefit to all."

The SES laboratory is a vital component to public health for Burlinski Region. The SES laboratory provides testing for water quality, food quality and laboratory diagnostic services for the Aksai hospital. Burlinski Region SES Head Zhanabaev commented: "I would like to express my gratitude to KIO and personally to Jack Hinton, HSE Director of KIO, who made a lot of efforts to bring this project into life."
