Update on COVID-19 Situation at Karachaganak

AKSAI, Western Kazakhstan Oblast, 25 May 2020 - Further to our previous communication, all 37 contacts who were quarantined in Aksai last week, as a follow-up from the recent positive COVID-19 case in KPO, have now been tested negative and discharged to home isolation.

In the meantime, WKO SES have introduced a quarantine regime at Karachaganak until June 5 2020 as a precautionary measure aimed at preventing the potential spread of COVID-19 into the Field and the neighbouring communities.

The quarantine requirements mainly deal with enhanced sanitation regime, medical checks and social distancing. Most of them have already been put in place by KPO.  For some, work is ongoing in conjunction with our major contractors. In any case the measures will not cause major impact on the ongoing operations.

As part of the quarantine, KPO will also arrange a pre-shift COVID-19 PCR testing for its employees arriving on-shift to the field. The same applies to the contractors involved in the field activities.

KPO continues its operations in a safe and responsible manner. At present the Venture has necessary resources, expertise and facilities to implement the quarantine measures as prescribed by the RoK health authorities.
