URALSK, West Kazakhstan Oblast, 26 October 2021 — The IV International Uralsk Green Forum (UGF) organised by Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. together with West Kazakhstan Oblast Akimat was held in Uralsk today.
Zulfukhar Zholdasov, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Environmental protection experts in green technologies, waste management, regional recycling companies, heads of relevant ministries and governmental agencies, as well as representatives of national and regional state authorities attended the Forum.
The key objective of the event was to discuss current issues related to the waste management as an important factor in the sustainable development of the West Kazakhstan region, new principles of environmental legislation of waste management, increasing the level of waste recycling and the development of «green» business in the region.
A subject-matter exhibition of West Kazakhstan Oblast was organised by regional recycling companies as a part of the Forum.
Opening the event, KPO General Director, Giancarlo Ruiu, noted that the Forum had become a good tradition. For four years already, the Forum has continued to gather experts, scientists, business community and public representatives together promoting a thoughtful discussion on the broadest possible range of environmental topics.
«Environmental sustainability is an integral part of KPO’s policy. Our activities are based on efficient, reliable and safe operations and a responsible attitude towards social and environmental issues thus ensuring sustainable development. Waste management is an integral part of KPO’s green transformation agenda. In KPO we are focused on reducing the real and potential hazards the generated waste may impose on people and the environment. We continuously explore and apply new and most advanced techniques and technologies in waste. Our targets are to treat and to recycle waste at our facilities, to cut down waste transfer to landfills and to reduce the negative impact from burial», said Giancarlo Ruiu.
Gali Iskaliyev, Akim of the West Kazakhstan Oblast, in his speech noted that «We will continue to strive to remain as the cleanest region. This will be a confirmation of our mission and strategy, which correspond to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN».
The participants of the Forum noted the effectiveness of the event saying that the high expert level of the UGF enabled a thorough discussion and detailed analysis of the issues on the agenda. In particular, Sergey Tsoy, a Sustainable Development Expert from Eicon Company, noted that solving environmental problems is the basis for sustainable social and economic development of the region, and it cannot be achieved without an active participation of the business community at large. «KPO is a well-established and reliable partner and holding such a Forum is yet another confirmation of this fact», he said.
According to the Forum participants, topics raised during discussions at UGF will be considered in their future activities. In addition, further consultations will be arranged to prepare specific actions and solutions.
