Karachaganak resumed drilling activities

AKSAI, West Kazakhstan Oblast, 08 November, 2021 — KPO, despite all the challenges and restrictions imposed due to COVID-19, continued its regular operations. KPO’s efforts ensured we continued to support local contractors and ensure business sustainability and social stability in the region.

Well Operations have been partially stopped during 2020/21 because of COVID-19 impacts, in order to safeguard health and safety of all personnel. Rigless and Small Rigs activities were ongoing with minimal impact to our respective contractors.

On 10 September 2021, KPO successfully restarted its drilling operations with a 3000 HP Rig on well 9864. During the last year, KPO tendered for the provision of 2 3000 HP Land Rigs with the target to drill with these 2 Rigs from Q3 2022.

KMG-Parker provides the 3000 HP Rig currently in operation, whilst other drilling related services are provided by the localised entities of Schlumberger, Haliburton, Baker Hughes, and others. Apart from these main contractors, Well Operations have many other local contractors working in the Karachaganak field, all in all over 100 national personnel are required for Well Construction and Completion activities.

The resumed drilling activities at Karachaganak highlight KPO’s commitment to its obligations for the continued development of the Karachaganak field and creating opportunities for local communities. This important milestone will enable for stable employment of contractor personnel and the support and development of local content. Resumed drilling operations will also provide for additional fiscal revenues to the Republic and enhanced production capabilities looking forward in line with the approved Karachaganak field development plans.
