According to the established state reporting, in the IV quarter of 2021, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. recorded excess emissions at flares in the amount of 48.4 tonnes, which was timely reported to the Environmental Department of the West-Kazakhstan Oblast and voluntarily paid tax payments for emissions.

Consequently, based on the results of an unscheduled environmental inspection conducted in September 2023 by the RSI «West Kazakhstan Oblast Environmental Department of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan», the Company was brought to administrative responsibility under part 1 of Article 328 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Kazakhstan for an asserted «Violation of norms of permissible anthropogenic impact on the environment».

The fine amounted to 164,366,170 (one hundred sixty-four million three hundred sixty-six thousand one hundred seventy) tenge.

The Company keep taking several technical measures to maintain at the higher standard the steam injection system and to ensure efficient combustion.
