KPO participated in the IMBC Forum and Open Doors Day for Kazakhstani Manufacturers

Atyrau, July 10-12, 2024 — Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) took part in the annual International Oil & Gas Machine Building Centre (IMBC) Forum, which focused on the development of oil and gas machine building in Kazakhstan.

The event was supported by the Mazhilis (Lower House) of the RoK Parliament, the RoK Ministry of Energy, PSA, and major oil and gas Operators in Kazakhstan such as Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V., Tengizchevroil LLP (TCO), and North Caspian Operating Company N.V. (NCOC).

During the Forum, KPO held a dedicated session with local manufacturers to share details and provide clarifications about the tools used for supporting local vendors and the tender procedures at the Karachaganak project.

Marco Marsili, KPO General Director highlighted the company’s achievements in collaboration with IMBC and outlined ongoing KPO initiatives to enhance Local Content within the Karachaganak Project.

Addressing the forum attendees, Marco Marsili emphasized: «KPO considers Local Content a top priority, and we work closely with IMBC to achieve this. Recently, we have signed a number of contracts with Kazakh companies, including for the provision of goods and engineering services to substitute previous international contracts. These new contracts have high Local Content requirements, averaging 75%, and are expected to create 150 new jobs in Kazakhstan.»

The local business community showed special interest in the Open Day Exhibition held during the Forum, where the three largest field operators namely KPO, TCO and NCOC demonstrated samples of oil and gas equipment which are in high demand within their projects. KPO shared specifications and required parameters for over 2500 goods in 12 categories used during operational activities at the Karachaganak Project. The Open Day session helped local manufacturers, understand opportunities and potential for their business by assessing if their products met the Operators’ criteria.

Additionally, during the Open Day session, memorandums of understanding were signed with local manufacturers. This collaboration will bring significant benefits to all parties and will contribute to the development of partnerships.

The Kazakh business community found the annual IMBC Forum a highly attractive event and an effective tool for discussing opportunities for LC development and localization of goods for the oil and gas industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
