KPO hosts the VII International Environmental Forum in Uralsk

Uralsk, West Kazakhstan Oblast, September 20th, 2024 — The VII International Environmental Forum «Uralsk Green Forum» has been held in Uralsk. This year, the event participants discussed the topic «Climate changes: challenges and prospects of using advanced technologies».

 

The main purpose of the Forum was to exchange experience and build a platform for further cooperation in implementing the «Green» economy concept, to strengthen a composite dialogue on environmental protection, opportunities for introduction of best available technologies, coverage of issues related to the climate change for combining joint efforts and forming a common vision on the sustainable development of the region.

 

The Forum was attended by officials from the President’s Office, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Energy, the WKO Akimat, members of the WKO Maslikhat, representatives of natural resources user companies, industry and specialized associations, agencies, experts, republican and regional media.

 

Opening the event, Akim of the West Kazakhstan Oblast Nariman Turegaliev highlighted the environmental measures currently being implemented in the region.

 

In her welcome address, Zulfiya Suleimenova, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for International Environmental Cooperation shared about the state policy in the field of climate change.

 

Nicola Allegro, KPO Operations Director stressed the particular relevance of the Forum and its role as an effective dialogue platform.

 

«Today’s event is the result of a fruitful collaboration between KPO and the WKO Akimat. We are pleased to have an opportunity to gather again to discuss new trends in the industry, tools and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in Kazakhstan. In the modern world, solving the pressing problem of climate change is of paramount importance. As a company that takes its obligations responsibly, KPO strives to make its contribution to the decarbonization process. KPO is currently implementing a number of initiatives in this area, paying special attention to energy efficiency, reducing methane emissions and introducing low-carbon technologies. In early 2024, KPO joined the UN Programme „Oil and Gas Methane Management Partnership 2.0“, thereby reaffirming its commitment to reducing methane emissions», said Nicola Allegro.

 

Within the framework of the Forum, a joint Resolution was adopted in which the Forum participants called for the creation of conditions for further promotion of the principles of carbon neutrality and incentives for the introduction of green technologies for the sustainable development of the region. The parties recognized the need to strengthen efforts in order to enhance public awareness about the best practices of sustainable development in the WKO, as well as projects on renewable energy sources, energy saving, reuse of recycled industrial waste as secondary material resources, as well as the development of digitalization in the field of monitoring and management of natural resources in on a national and regional scale.

 

As part of the Forum, awards were presented to business-partner and KPO employees who had most distinguished themselves in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development. In addition, the winners of the «Ecology and My Family» video competition were awarded.

 

The VII International Environmental Forum «Uralsk Green Forum» ended with a joint tree planting — a collaboration with the «Solnechnyi Uralsk» Charity Foundation.
