On October 2, 2024, in Atyrau, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) participated in the workshop-exhibition dedicated to opportunities for localization of goods for major oil and gas projects: Tengiz, Kashagan and Karachaganak.
The event was organized by the International Center for Development of Oil And Gas Machine Building (IMB Centre) in cooperation with the «Petrocouncil» Oil and Gas Industry Strategic Partnerships Development Council, as well as with support from the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and PSA LLP. The workshop was attended by major operators such as: Tengizchevroil (TCO), North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) and Chevron Direct Investment Fund.
The official part of the event started with a speech of Arymbek Kudaibergen, Vice-Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Rzabek Artygaliyev, Chairman of the Presidium of the Oil and Gas Council «Petrocouncil» and Nurzhan Kismetov, PSA LLP Deputy General Director for Contracts and Marketing.
As part of the event, some goods were reviewed by categories: electrotechnical equipment, valves and components, and instrumentation. The IMB Centre’s technical experts provided clarifications on the capacity development plans for local manufacturers and the certification requirements applied by major operators KPO, NCOC and TCO. One of the key aspects of the workshop was an exhibition of local manufacturers’ goods, where the Kazakhstani companies showcased their products.
During the workshop, KPO signed contracts with Kazakhstani suppliers totaling over USD 96 million. Mukhtar Mankeyev, KPO Vice General Director, emphasized that these contracts had been awarded through the application of the «Kazakhstani Tender» mechanism. The essence of this mechanism is that only local suppliers of goods, works and services can participate in such tenders with the main goal of ensuring that contracts are awarded to Kazakhstani companies. He also noted that KPO constantly creates favourable conditions for local suppliers to effectively engage them in the company’s procurement processes, which led to the application of this mechanism.
The workshop brought together more than 190 participants from around the world, including about 60 domestic companies, as well as representatives from the state authorities and industry associations. KPO will continue to support local oil and gas equipment manufacturers and promote their integration into implementation of the Karachaganak project.
