Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Krymbek Kusherbayev familiarised with KPO activities

AKSAI, West Kazakhstan, 20 December, 2012 - Today, during a working trip to the West Kazakhstan Oblast (WKO), Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Krymbek Kusherbayev, met with KPO management to learn about the current operations of the Karachaganak project.

KPO General Director Damiano Ratti briefed the delegation on current activities at the Karachaganak field, plans for its further development, and the company’s contribution to the region’s social and economic development.

It was noted that Karachaganak is one of the largest international projects in Kazakhstan. It was noted that more than 16 billion dollars was invested by the KPO partners into the development of Karachaganak.  Furthermore, Karachaganak has a positive socio-economic impact.

KPO is executing a complete range of initiatives to raise the professional capability of local employees and enhance the potential of Kazakh vendors and suppliers.  The KPO Nationalisation and Local Personnel Long-term Development Programme arebeing implemented and are in full swing.

As the largest employer in the region, KPO actively utilises local resources. This enhances companies’ operational capabilities and contributes to the broader development of the long-term economic and intellectual potential of the West Kazakhstan Oblast.  Today, Kazakh personnel occupy 69 per cent of managerial and 94 per cent of all supervisory and technical positions at KPO.

The local vendor development programme has made it possible to bring more than 3 thousand Kazakh enterprises into the development of Karachaganak.  Overall, these companies have concluded contracts with KPO for a value exceeding 4 billion dollars.

KPO’s investments have positively impacted the social development of West Kazakhstan.  Each year, KPO allocates 20 million dollars for social infrastructure development in the region.  All construction activities solely utilise Kazakh contractors.

Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Krymbek Kusherbayev noted Kazakhstan’s government is monitoring the progress of the Karachaganak project closely.

"The project is developing according to its concept, while there is a positive economic effect from its implementation", said Krymbek Kusherbayev during a working meeting with the Authorities of WKO and the Burlin District and KPO top management.
