KPO IMPLEMENTS NEW TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR LOCAL EMPLOYEES

KPO started the implementation of new training International Management Qualification programme for the local staff in international management.

Nearly 50 KPO staff members who successfully pass through a challenging and strict selection process will be able to obtain an international diploma under the International Management Qualification programme. The planned duration of the training programme is one and a half years. KPO’s average cost per student will be $12,000.

The programme has been accredited by the world famous British Institute of Leadership & Management. The training process will be conducted with the support of the best British tutors.

Roger Fox, KPO General Director, emphasised that, “The education and professional development of Kazakhstani staff is one of KPO’s main priorities. The International Management Qualification (IMQ) training programme will allow its participants to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for their further professional growth and development as part of the KPO Nationalisation Programme”.

During the signing of the Final Production Sharing Agreement, KPO undertook a commitment for developing a strategy to train Kazakhstani professionals that are able to effectively manage one of the largest operational processes in the world. Today, there are many talented Kazakhstani specialists holding key positions in the company. KPO intends to increase the number of Kazakhstani managers up to 40% by the year 2008.

Overall, the KPO Local Personnel Development Strategy includes criteria that influence the success of KPO’s operations both for the short-term and long-term future. The programme includes a constant enhancement of the professional qualifications of local staff, as well as the development of their leadership and managerial potential.

As was reported, the implemented personnel nationalisation programme allows for gradual and uninterrupted replacement of foreign employees. It includes the development of individual career and training plans, organisation of general training and training in foreign and Kazakhstani languages, evaluation of professional and managerial skills of employees for determining candidates able in the future to take management positions, and programs of tutorship and preparation of university graduates.

The training and development plans of employees are developed taking into account medium term and long term perspectives of company development. Special attention is paid to international training programs which provide certificates such as Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the Chartered Institute of Managerial Accounting and Chartered Institute of Management. KPO plans active promotion of such training under the programme of support of higher education in Kazakhstan.

Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) is a joint venture between BG Group (32.5%), Eni (32.5%), Chevron (20%), and LUKOIL (15%). The Karachaganak reserves are over 1.2 billion tonnes of oil and condensate and 1.35 trillion cubic metres of gas.
